Footswitch: M-Vave Chocolate Plus

Connect the pedal wired or wireless on Mac and Windows, switch amp channels, bank through 36 chains and run the looper from bank 11.

The Complete Chain supports the M-Vave Chocolate Plus out of the box. It works in the standalone app and as an AU or VST3, because the Chain opens the pedal itself. Footswitch support is part of the Complete Chain only, trial included. More about the pedal and where to buy one.

Charge it and switch it on

Charge over USB-C, switch it on, and set the interface switch to U, for a computer.

  2. 02

    Mac, wireless

Open Audio MIDI Setup, choose Window › Show MIDI Studio, click the Bluetooth icon and Connect the pedal. It shows as FootCtrl.

  3. 03

    Mac or Windows, wired

Plug it in with a USB-C data cable. Over USB the pedal calls itself SINCO, after its chip; that is normal.

  4. 04

    Windows, wireless

Open Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Add device › Bluetooth and pair the pedal. Wireless MIDI is newer on Windows than on Mac; if the pedal doesn’t appear in the Chain, use the cable.

  5. 05

    Check it in the Chain

Press FOOTSWITCH in the toolbar. PEDAL says Any M-Vave pedal (automatic) and the line above it turns green: connected. The Chain follows the pedal when you switch between cable and Bluetooth.

Out of the box, bank 1 is Monolith’s four channels, display 000 to 003. Press C and D together to go up a bank and A and B together to come back. Banks 2 to 10 load your chains, four to a bank, up to display 039, and bank 11 is the looper:

BANKDISPLAYWHAT THE SWITCHES DO
1000 – 003Monolith’s amp channels: CH1, CH1.5, CH2, CH3
2004 – 007Your first four chains
3008 – 011The next four
4 – 9012 – 035Four chains each
10036 – 039The last four: 36 chains in all
11040 – 043The looper: REC, PLAY / STOP, UNDO, MUTE NEWEST

To choose the chain on each switch, open FOOTSWITCH, step to a bank with the arrows and pick a chain for A to D. A switch you leave empty plays your CHAIN PRESET menu in order: bank 2 the first four, bank 3 the next four. The setup is saved for the whole computer, not per preset.

Looper mode

Press B and C together on any bank, or step up to bank 11 (display 040). The Chain jumps to Lifeblood, the toolbar key reads LOOPER MODE, and the switches run the looper. Your amp channel and chain stay as they were. Press B and C together again to go back to the bank you were on.

The pedal’s own display keeps showing its bank after B and C, because the pedal doesn’t know about looper mode; the toolbar in the Chain is the one to trust.

SWITCHIN LOOPER MODE
AREC: records the next loop. When the looper is stopped, it plays.
BPLAY / STOP
CUNDO the newest loop
DMute or unmute the newest loop. While it records, D finishes it early; while it waits for the bar, D cancels it.

There is no clear on the pedal, so a stray stomp can’t wipe a take. On banks 2 to 11, B and C act about a tenth of a second after you press them, while the Chain checks you aren’t pressing both; A and D, and every switch on bank 1, act at once. See the looper for the rest of its controls.
