THREE PEDALS. ONE TREADLE.

Three pedals and a treadle to swell, shift and sweep the note. In the Complete Chain it sits between Revenant and Aftermath.

THREE PEDALS. ONE TREADLE.

HEEL TO
TOE.

Switch each pedal on its own. The signal runs DOPPEL → PHANTOM → BANSHEE, so the volume and the ambience come last.

01 / BANSHEE

Swell it in. Let it hang.

A volume pedal and an ambience on one treadle, from a plain volume pedal to a freeze.

MODE / MIX / DECAY / GLASS / MIN / STEADY

02 / DOPPEL

Hold an interval.

A fixed-interval pitch shifter, from two octaves down to two octaves up, with a RISE stomp.

INTERVAL / MIX / DETUNE / GLIDE / TONE / RISE

03 / PHANTOM

Make it speak.

An envelope filter: pick harder and it opens further. WAH hands it to the treadle.

01 / BANSHEE

SWELL IT IN.
LET IT HANG.

A volume pedal and an ambience in one treadle. The ambience is Revenant’s Wraith, so it starts with the note and only ever adds to it.

MODE picks what the treadle does. MIX sets how loud the ambience is, and zero is none. DECAY runs from 0.3 to 10 seconds, and GLASS from dark to bright without getting louder. MIN sets where the heel sits, so the treadle can swell from a floor instead of from silence.

VOLUME

A volume pedal. Half way down is −12 dB, and the heel is silent.

SWELL

A volume pedal into a hall. The note swells in and the tail rings on after you heel back: violin swells and pads.

WASH

Your note never moves. The treadle sets how much hall.

HALO

WASH with Wraith’s octave halo glowing over the note.

BLOOM

The treadle grows the space, from a short room at the heel to a cathedral of twice DECAY at the toe.

FREEZE

The treadle sets how much ambience. Rock to the toe and the sound hangs while you play over it.

STEADY

A latching stomp. On, BANSHEE stays fully open whatever the treadle and AUTO do, with the ambience at MIX. PHANTOM’s wah still follows the treadle.

LAST ON THE BOARD

BANSHEE comes after DOPPEL and PHANTOM, where a volume pedal and a reverb belong. On its own in a DAW, put Spectre after the amp: reverb into high gain turns to mud.

BLOOM grows as fast as you move the treadle and shrinks over a few seconds, so heeling back never chops a tail. In VOLUME at the toe, the board passes your sound through sample for sample.

02 / DOPPEL

HOLD THE
INTERVAL.

A second voice a fixed distance from your note, anywhere from two octaves down to two octaves up.

INTERVAL is set in semitones, from −24 to +24. MIX runs from dry to shifted: half is a harmony, full is the shifted voice alone. DETUNE nudges it up to 50 cents either way, so at unison it doubles you. GLIDE sets how long the voice takes to slide to a new interval, and TONE darkens the shifted voice without touching your dry note.

RISE

A held stomp. With DOPPEL off, hold it to glide up to the interval; with DOPPEL on, it falls back to unison. GLIDE sets how fast.

SMOOTH SPLICES

The shifter finds each splice by correlation and crossfades at a steady level, so held notes stay smooth. The shifted voice trails your note by 10 to 25 ms.

Factory presets include a harmony fifth, an octave-down blend, a detuned double and a whole-step drop. Off, DOPPEL passes your sound through sample for sample.

03 / PHANTOM

MAKE IT
SPEAK.

An envelope filter. The harder you pick, the further a resonant filter opens, and it closes again as the note dies.

SENS sets how far your pick opens it, PEAK the resonance and RESPONSE how fast it closes. RANGE moves its three-and-a-half-octave sweep from deep and throaty to bright and cutting. MIX blends it with your plain tone, and its level is matched to yours, so engaging it never drops you out of the mix. The screen draws the filter as it moves.

LOW

A round, throaty sweep.

BAND

The vocal quack.

HIGH

Thin and cutting.

DOWN

Turns the sweep round: the pick closes the filter and it opens as the note dies.

WAH

Hands BANSHEE’s treadle, or your expression pedal, to the filter, voiced as a classic wah. Your pick still pushes it as far as SENS allows.

PHANTOM listens to the board’s dry input, so it follows your pick whatever DOPPEL does to the pitch, and it filters after DOPPEL, so the shifted voice is swept too.

04 / AUTO

THE TREADLE
MOVES ITSELF.

No expression pedal? AUTO, on the footer rail, rocks the treadle for you. It moves BANSHEE’s swell, and PHANTOM too when WAH is on.

AUTO / ACTUAL PLUGIN DETAIL

PEDAL

The treadle is yours. Drag it, or learn your expression pedal with EXP.

CYCLE

Rocks heel to toe in time with your host’s beat, or TAP in the standalone: a tremolo, or a wah in eighths.

PICK

Every pick fires one gesture: a ramp down for an envelope filter’s quack, a ramp up for a swell on every note.

SWELL

Short notes stay dry. A note held past SPEED blooms toward the toe, and the next pick drops it back.

FOLLOW

The treadle follows how hard you play. With a ramp down, the ambience fills the rests.

SPEED is a note value with SYNC on, from two bars to a 1/32 with dotted and triplet values between, and a time with it off, from 3 s to 40 ms. DEPTH sets how far toward the toe it goes. SHAPE picks the gesture: sine, triangle, ramp up, ramp down, square or random.

SENS sets how light a pick AUTO hears: up if soft notes are missed, down if it fires on notes still ringing. The screen draws the treadle’s last three seconds, and its PICK lamp lights for every pick it hears. INPUT and OUTPUT trims sit at either end of the rail.

YOUR FOOT. YOUR PICK.

IT LISTENS
TO YOU.

EXPRESSION PEDAL

With AUTO on PEDAL, a MIDI CC drives the treadle, CC 11 by default. Click EXP and move your pedal to learn another; it is saved with your session and your presets. In the Complete Chain, an M-Vave Chocolate’s expression jack moves it.

SIDECHAIN

AUTO and PHANTOM listen for your picks, and after a high-gain amp and a delay those picks blur. So Spectre has a sidechain input: in Logic, pick your dry DI track in the plugin’s Side Chain menu. It is only listened to, never heard.

Inside the Complete Chain, Spectre hears the chain’s DI by itself, lined up with the stages before it, so a pick lands where you hear it. Audio flows through Lifeblood → Monolith → Revenant → Spectre → Aftermath, and one preset saves and recalls all five sections.
